Lip fillers are among the most popular types of dermal fillers. They increase your lips volume. The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and have realistic expectations. A lip filler is an injection that adds volume to your lips. They are a type of filler. Lip fillers consisting of synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) — HA are naturally occurring substances in your body.

Injections are never comfortable enough, no matter where on the body they are given. Luckily, there are many techniques to minimize pain during the lip injection process. We do everything we can to provide comfortable treatment for patients, which may include a combination of the following techniques:

  • Numbing Cream
  • Before the treatment, we can apply numbing cream on the treatment area. This topical solution will numb the skin to reduce discomfort from the injection.
  • Ice
  • Similar to numbing cream, we can apply ice to the treatment area to numb the skin.
  • Lidocaine
  • Lidocaine is a type of anesthetic that can be mixed into injectable lip products. Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery uses Juvederm® Ultra lip filler, which contains lidocaine in the product. This allows the patient to get an additional numbing effect with each injection and helps further reduce pain.
  • Laughing Gas
  • Laughter gas, or nitrous oxide, is a mild sedative that helps the patient relax. It can reduce anxiety and pain, helping patients relax comfortably when they receive lip injections. These wear off quickly, which makes them a safe technique for patients who need to return to their usual activities after treatment.

Due to the lidocaine in the filler, the patient’s lips are usually numb and therefore free of discomfort after the lip injection. When the lidocaine wears off, any lingering discomfort can be easily remedied with ice or Tylenol.

The results of the lip fillers are almost instant, with immediate benefits visible after the injection. Although swelling and minor bruising are common after treatment, they will subside within a few weeks. At this point, a follow-up appointment is recommended for any touches or adjustments needed for the shape and size. After four weeks, you will see the end result.

The results of lip fillers are not permanent as the body naturally metabolizes the fillers over time. Most of the fillers will last about 6 to 8 weeks. Patients may choose to prolong their results by undergoing regular “maintenance” treatment sessions.
